Rounding out the updates for tonight was a fun filled fashion supershoot! This was held in Houston, TX at Photostudio Houston. A big thanks goes to Kimmie and Haley for doing an outstanding job on the makeup and my partner in photowizardry, Q Guillory, for helping make this event a success for all that came out with us.

Stay tuned for the next round of shoots from this past quarter! There have been some fun and exciting projects underway and I can't wait to share more with you - but for now....it's back to photo edits :)

It has been a busy few months since my last post. I have had the pleasure of working with some extremely talented people and I wanted to share some of the recent activities.

January

January started off with a bang! It was a cold start of the new year in Houston but I started it off with Norma and Izzy - great shoots, different shoots, fun shoots!

On December 13th we had our second meetup of the Houston Modeling Industry Professionals. The meetup was held at The Coffee Groundz and was hosted by myself and Robert of R & J Photography. The meetup is a networking event for photographers, models, makeup artists, stylists, and anyone interested in the industry in Houston. We had a great turnout with models, agency representatives, photographers, stylists, actors, and designers from all over the Houston area. We decided to setup some lights and do a little shooting - you know you can't have that many people in the business in one place without a shoot happening :) - and here are some of my images captured at the event. I recently had a shoot with Leonora and Kessia, my Brazilian friends from Katy, and these two are a real joy to work with. Although we had a great time during the shoot, the best time is during image review...I've gotten some great responses in the past when we review images but these two by far are the most fun! Thanks for the "Hsh" and "hum hummmm's" :) and the best part is they are fans of Mariza....I knew my wife and I weren't the only Fado fans in Katy! Ok..ok..on to the photos :)

This was the last photoshoot special of 2010 and we wanted to make sure the participants would have a day to remember. A photoshoot with me was one of the prizes given on July 4th at the Tweetup for Our Troops event in Houston, TX and Ms. Jackson won the shoot but I was the real winner. I've been hanging out on facebook and twitter and busy in the studio but I'm getting back to work on my blog. Here are some long overdue images from the wedding of Vanessa and Christian on November 8, 2008 in Houston, TX. They are a great couple and their wedding was a lot of fun to cover! This was one of those meant to be weddings for us because I've run into this couple all over Houston since the wedding :) Their wedding took place at the Houston National Golf Club and it is a great location for an outdoor ceremony. This has been on busy, crazy, hectic, but fun week! I had a great shoot with Dr. Trey Hadnott, did a last minute boudoir session with a wonderful young lady to surprise her boyfriend, new client meetings, coffee breaks, and finished it off with a great Valentines Day spent with my wife and son! This has been one of those great days...no shooting involved....but I spent the day with my wife, landed 2 new clients, made some excellent contacts...and best of all..I spent the day with my wife :D

With our schedules it's not often we get to do this and it has been a lot of fun...we hung out at Coffee Groundz, drove around Houston, laughed, talked, and just chilled...tomorrow I pick the camera up again, but today was a nice little vacation!

Coffee Groundz

After chatting with J.R. @ coffeegroundz on Twitter, I went by to check out The Coffee Groundz and it is an awesome place! Located in midtown, this place has everything...coffee, tea, full bar, food, and did I mention coffee - I'm now a Butter Toffee Latte fan! Free Wi-Fi, great patio, and best of all they are doing alot to help the environment...enviro-friendly delivery, coffee fertilizer - yep - coffee!

My thanks to J.R. for chatting with me and showing me around and I'm definitely going to head back....and for all of my photographer friends out there - this place is surrounded by some great shooting locations!! If you've never been, I highly recommend making it a regular stop...ask for J.R. and tell him Donnie sent you!

WOW! This year already has one month under its belt! January was a truly amazing month. It started out with a photoshoot of Houston Police Chief Harold Hurtt for Monarch Magazine (photos coming soon) and midway through we had the Houston Powershoot (see below) and then the month ended with covering Dr. Maya Angelou (see below)!

It was a whirlwind month but now it's time for February...ok batteries are charged, memory cards are empty, let's get it done :D

I have a ton of photos that I am editing but some things just can't wait. I had the pleasure of photographing the truly amazing Dr. Maya Angelou tonight and wanted to share a few of the images. Dr. Angelou graced the city of Houston as part of the Brilliant Lecture series at the Hobby Center. It was an evening filled with amazing stories, some made you laugh and some made you cry but they all left you feeling blessed to be who and where you are in the life you have been gifted with! This was truly an event that I shall remember for years to come!

Houston Powershoot 2009 took place on January 17 in Houston and January 18 in Dallas. It was a great turnout and we're definitely looking forward to the next event. Well it's a new year, 2009...WOW...things are moving pretty fast this year. I have a ton of updates to do and I'm starting this year off right...I'm devoting more time to my blot! Things got away from me last year and I was not able to update as often as I wanted but this year things will be different....I'm a blogging machine!!

Let's see...so far I've shot the chief of police (with a nikon :D ), had a bunch of shoots with some outstanding models, participated in the Houston Powershoot (thanks Nina! it was a blast!!) and it's only Jan 18.

I have a ton of photos to update and I will post as I go...so stay tuned, 2009 will be a great blogging year...and watch out for my youtube commercials...oh the fun we're gonna have!

Changes going on!!

Well it's been a while since I last posted but there have been some big changes going on!

First, there are now two websites - one which is focused on wedding photography (www.dmorelandweddings.com) and one which is focused on all non-wedding related work (www.dmoreland.com).

Second, I have been working with an amazing makeup artist, Shauntel Jones of Satin Touches ((www.satintouches.net). If you are in the Houston area and are in need of a makeup artist, I highly recommend Shauntel!

Third, of course wedding season is in full swing, and I have some wonderful couples that I have the pleasure of working with. New wedding work will be posted very very soon.

Lastly, I have been in studio more and, of course, doing some location work, and I have some great new concepts so stay tuned for some outstanding fashion and beauty postings!

Today's Megashoot - the Urban Trash The Dress was a great success! Great weather, super models, and some very talented photographers and makeup artists all made for some very creative pictures. I had the opportunity to shoot Kinky Friedman on June 8, 2006 at Borders in Houston, TX. Kinky was on his Houston stop of his Texas tour during his run for Governor. I have to admit he's an interesting character and probably would have made a very entertaining Governor...well there's always another election. As the election got closer, Kinky continued to stay in the public eye. Even though he lost, he's still out there with his black attire and signature cigars...Who knows, maybe it's time for Texas to get a little Kinky.
